Atlanta Hawks questions: Can Trae Young snag another All-Star starter spot?

This is a big question for Trae Young and Hawks fans. I believe it’s likely Young makes an All-Star game in 2021 to follow-up his All-Star debut in 2020. The question is, will he be a starter again?

In their sophomore seasons, both Luka Doncic and Young showed the 2018 draft class has what it takes to perform and perform now by being voted in as All-Star starters.

If Harden flips to the East, it’s probable that Young gets squeezed from the starting five.

Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, Kemba Walker, and Trae Young were starters from the East last year.

You could make the argument that Siakam took a step back in the second half of last year (you’d be right) and won’t be a starter next year. Kemba Walker is dealing with injury and may be off to a slow start.

But good luck stopping Jayson Tatum (could be voted in as a “frontcourt” player), Ben Simmons, and James Harden if he moves to the East in the backcourt voting.

It’s possible (my prediction, this hasn’t been reported) the league drops the conferences altogether for this year’s All-Star game. It’s also possible due to the ongoing global pandemic that there is no All-Star game. Indiana’s hosting of the game has already been delayed, but it’s possible the league still has something up its sleeve (All-Star weekend bubble?) for the All-Star weekends.

Nonetheless, there still will likely be All-Stars named for 2021, even if no game is held. Trae Young is likely to be in the mix, but will he be a starter?
