Atlanta Hawks: 3 things we learned from the first preseason game
Trae Young needs more movement on offense
Atlanta Hawks franchise point guard Trae Young was a little rusty in his first showing of the season last night, but Hawks fans shouldn’t worry. In 22 minutes, Young went just 2 for 9 from the field and 0-2 from three for 7 points in the loss.
He turned the ball over 6 times but managed 6 assists in the game, including his signature ‘nutmeg’ pass to find Clint Capela on a nice play.
Head Coach Lloyd Pierce will need to figure out how to get Trae Young moving on offense when the ball isn’t in his hands. You could see Young floating around the perimeter and near half-court often after he had initiated the offense and was no longer in the play. A few off-ball screens for Trae Young will go a long way for this Hawks offense that now has other capable shooters and scorers on the roster.
