Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is excited to play with Clint Capela

Atlanta Hawks fans got their first real look at former Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela on Friday evening and for what it’s worth, they should like what they saw. Trae Young certainly did.

In 20 minutes of action, Clint Capela went 4 for 6 from the field, scoring 8 points and snagging 14 rebounds. It was the first time that Capela and Trae Young actually got to play together and it seemed like the two are clicking well already. Capela joined the Hawks last season but never saw the floor due to injuries and the Hawks’ shortened season. They were talking a lot on the floor and on the bench, which had Young very excited about the big man’s potential in Atlanta.

As a bonus to Capela’s offensive skill set and Trae Young’s ability to find him off pick and rolls, Capela will do a lot to fortify the Hawk’s defense, an area that they struggled in last season. As one of the best rim protectors in the NBA, Capela averaged 13.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game last year before injuries brought his season to an end. While Capela was one of the NBA’s best, Trae Young was one of the league’s worst defenders so it’s no surprise that he was excited about sharing the floor with Capela, even if it was in a loss.
