Atlanta Hawks PG Trae Young needs to separate himself from other PGs to make the NBA All-Star game in 2021

While some NBA fans may argue that the game has become somewhat positionless, the point guard spot has evolved far beyond its traditional days even though we still see remnants of it in the likes of Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry. As LeBron James and Ben Simmons are now being considered point guards, Trae Young will have to separate himself from the “big guards” if he wants a chance at returning to the All-Star game this year.

Trae Young benefited from a few missing faces in the Eastern Conference last season due to injuries. Kyrie Irving will be making his return to the league this year after missing all of last season, and he’ll be paired with none other than Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. Bradley Beal was also unaccounted for the NBA Orlando restart, missing it with a rotator cuff injury. He won’t be playing with John Wall who is now in Houston but is instead joined by Russell Westbrook.

What do all of the offseason and free agency moves mean for Trae Young?

He’ll have to figure out how to create some separation. It’ll be hard to improve upon his numbers as Young finished top 5 in both scoring and assists last year. As previously discussed, Young can improve a lot defensively to have his name mentioned amongst the Ben Simmons and Russell Westbrooks of the East.
