Best Atlanta Hawks of all-time – Dominique Wilkins (1982-1994)

Perhaps the most obvious placement on this list, none other than Hawks legend Dominque Wilkins earns the top spot as the Atlanta Hawks’ best player ever.

Selected third overall behind James Worthy and Terry Cummings in 1982, Dominque Wilkins was drafted to the Utah Jazz, who were having problems with their finances at the time. The incompetence of the Jazz front office made Wilkins hesitant to start his career there, and he was ultimately traded to the Atlanta Hawks for the number 5 player on this list, John Drew, Freeman Williams, and $1 million cash.

Wilkins got to Atlanta and was ready to go to work for the Hawks. He made the NBA All-Rookie First Team averaging 17.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in his first year. He averaged 30.3 points per game in 1985-1986 to win the NBA scoring title that season.

Nique went to 9 straight NBA All-star games from 1985 to 1994. He made the All-NBA First Team in 1986 and made the Second and Third teams four and two times, respectively. Dominque Wilkins was known as “The Human Highlight Film” and won the Slam Dunk Contests in both 1985 and 1990.

Dominique Wilkins would play for four other franchises and the EuroLeague after being traded away from Atlanta in 1994. He would retire in 1999 and is now an Atlanta Hawks TV analyst.
