The Atlanta Hawks were not involved in the James Harden sweepstakes. However, there should be some flow-on trades as a result of him moving to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Atlanta Hawks wisely chose not to try and enter the James Harden sweepstakes. They sat back and weighed up the pros and cons of Harden and will look at the best possible trade partner to improve their own stocks.

There have been rumors that John Collins is not happy with certain aspects of the team but the Hawks have kept a professional working environment. This has meant that the team will not be rushed into making a bad move when trying to maximize their return for Collins when they trade him.

Collins has developed into a franchise player in his own right but the Hawks have hitched their wagon to third-year point guard Trae Young as their franchise cornerstone and are going to build around him.

The Atlanta Hawks should make a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers

While the Cleveland Cavaliers have just added to their playing stock with the addition of Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince, this has them with an out of balance roster. They have Andre Drummond, Allen, Kevin Love, Larry Nance Jr, JaVale McGee, and Thon Maker who can all play the five. Here is how the trade should look.

While the Cavaliers were not really an option for the Hawks to trade with previously, the moves they made as part of the Harden trade made them prime candidates to have flow-on trades. Let’s take a look at why both teams would agree to this trade.
