Atlanta Hawks: Player grades in blowout loss to the Utah Jazz
Atlanta Hawks starting lineup grades:
De’Andre Hunter was solid in the first half, scoring ten points on 5-of-8 shooting, mainly from the mid-range. Played solid defense on Bojan Bogdanovic, holding him to eight points on 2-of-8 shooting for the half. Hunter kept popping up and making shots throughout the night on his way to a quiet 14 points.
A really quiet first half for John Collins in the first. Had seven points but only two rebounds in a game where he needed to help out down low as much as he could given Gobert’s size. Came out in the third period and had much better energy. Dove on the floor twice to compete for the ball, winning it both times. However, one quarter does not make a game and Collins did not have the impact on the game the Hawks required.
If Clint Capela shot the ball he scored in the first half, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and collecting six rebounds. Unfortunately his opponent, Rudy Gobert was better going 5-of-5 from the floor, scoring 12 points and collecting eight rebounds. Had a 16 point, 11 rebound double-double by the end of the third period. Shot the ball 8-of-9 from the floor which matched the output of Gobert by the end of the game.
Cam Reddish played on Donovan Mitchell for the first half and the Jazz star simply did what he wanted on his way to 20 points by the main break. Found his jump shot again, being 4-of-7 from the floor at the half. Started the second half with a 3-ball and was one of only two Hawks to connect on a shot from deep all night, going 4-of-5 from behind the line. It was so good to see him break out o his slump. Was minus 34 in the box score which hurt his grade a little.
Trae Young started the game very slowly. He did not score until the middle of the second period and was 1-of-8 in the first half. His first shot make was on a trademark Young drive He tried to impact games in other areas collecting four rebounds and three assists. He harassed the opposition on defense every chance that he could which was tremendous to see. Got to the line within 30 seconds of the second half starting the Hawks run back into the game. Had four assists in the third and did not play in the last when the game was over. His shot was really off for the night which begs the question of whether his wrist is ok.
