Atlanta Hawks: Player grades in blowout loss to the Utah Jazz
Atlanta Hawks reserve grades:
Kevin Huerter was good in the first half, he provided a spark off the bench with eight points to the break. The Hawks would have struggled to keep within 20 without the second-year man. Was off from deep but kept attacking the paint for the night. Ended up with 10 points on the night.
Came on with less than four minutes of junk time to play and quickly had two points and a rebound within 30 seconds of hitting the court. Had zero impact on the court after that.
Solomon Hill missed his only shot in the first half and collected three rebounds. Was hit in the face with an elbow in the face by Royce O’Neale in transition defense. Somehow no foul got called, such was the night for the Hawks. The next time his defense was called upon he forced Conley into a turnover. Did not have a huge influence on the game tonight though
Bought his usual energy to the first half for his four minutes making the ball move for two assists. Played some time on the floor with Rondo in what appeared to be an experiment. Could not buy a bucket from the floor, getting all of his four points from the line, missing all six field-goal attempts including five from deep.
Rajon Rondo came back from injury tonight and played 10 minutes in the first half. He missed all four of his shots but kept the ball moving, collecting two assists. Heads up play at the end of the third collecting an offensive foul by taking advantage of Georges Niang not watching. Looked very rusty for the whole game.
Had several drives to the basket and two good looks from deep. He hit his first points as a Hawks player, a 3-point shot from the wing. He will be better for the run and may get more time as a result of his solid play.
Playing his first game of the season, taking some nervous shots but worked hard on the boards and looked, once the nerves settled like he will be solid in the league. Got his first hoop on a post-up move where he seemed to flip it up after almost giving up trying to beat his man. Followed it up with a putback slam which was a great energy play. Had four points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a solid opening game.
In closing:
The Jazz were simply too strong tonight. They showed that they are going to be tough to beat in the West, particularly if they keep shooting the 3-ball at 45.5 percent like they did tonight. The Hawks on the other hand were horrible from deep, shooting just 17.9 percent.
Trae Young tried hard but his shot was off in a major way. Okongwu looked like he has a bright future and could be the answer to the Hawks issues at the pivot when Capela goes off the floor
