Atlanta Hawks lose a tight game against the Portland Trail Blazers – grades
Best Atlanta Hawks reserve performance:
Solomon Hill played the backup big role for the night, spelling both Collins and Capela, playing just under 26 minutes on the night. Went 3-of-7 from the floor and did not collect a single rebound which allowed the Blazers to dominate the boards when Capela was off the court.
Brandon Goodwin had a much better night than he did against the Utah Jazz. Scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting and also had two steals. His energy was again the catalyst for some good Hawks basketball. His impact on the box score was plus 13 which was by far and away the best for the Hawks on the night.
Tony Snell had good meaningful minutes for the first time as a Hawks player tonight due to the injury to Cam Reddish. Hit a nice-looking 3-point shot from the wing as well as collecting three rebounds and three assists. As he gets more playing time, he will have a greater impact on the game for the team.
Rajon Rondo still looks a little underdone. He is not meshing well enough with the other players when he hits the floor. He drives in too deep and has to throw the ball of the opposition too often. Should be better when the team gets some of their floor spacing shooters back. Played nine minutes, collecting four rebounds and two assists
In closing:
The Hawks struggled on the second night of the back-to-back, running out of legs in the second half. Their next game is in a day and a half on MLK day against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is a good chance for the Hawks to get back on track as the Timberwolves are struggling despite adding another No 1. pick.
