Atlanta Hawks Reason things will get better No. 2) Defensive chemistry

This is the area that is going to be the greatest growth potential for the Hawks this season. With the players that they are trying to integrate into the rotation, the defensive chemistry is going to improve out of sight.

De’Andre Hunter has evolved into the primary defender in the starting unit. Cam Reddish has been getting into passing lanes and is being disruptive. Even Young is trying to get more involved in defense. Coach Lloyd Pierce has Young defending the corner 3-ball in an effort to minimize his lack of defensive prowess.

When Kris Dunn comes back from injury, he will be defending the opposition’s best wing every night as he is the best wing defender on the roster. On top of that, when he works out that Capela is behind him in the paint, Dunn is going to be even more dangerous. This is because Capela will be the best defensive center Dunn has played with.

Add to this Tony Snell, who has made a living in this league as a 3-and-D specialist, and the Hawks are going to be hard to score against inside and out. As their rookie, Onyeka Okongwu grows, he will be able to work with the second unit and develop his defense at the same time.
