Atlanta Hawks disappointing player No. 1) Solomon Hill

When Solomon Hill was signed by the Hawks, there was a good level of optimism about his defense. He is also a serviceable 3-point shooter which would make him a really good reserve for when De’Andre Hunter came out of the game.

Well, his 3-point shooting is as advertised, he is going at 33.3 percent on the season compared to 33.6 percent for his career. However, Hill is not good enough to rely on the 3-ball when he is on the court. He takes 4.4 shot attempts a game, 3.4 of them from deep.

This makes him a liability on offense as he is only making one-third of his shots from beyond the arc that he takes. This is making him too easy to guard as his defender knows what he is going to do. It also means that the offense is stagnant as Hill spaces the floor but is not moving enough to open up lanes for others.

His defense has also not been great. With the exception of one quarter on Gordon Hayward and a few other isolated quarters, Hill has not been able to slow the opposition down. He fitted the Miami Heat defensive schemes well but has yet to make his mark on the Hawks defense.

Then there are the silly turnovers. Hill is a veteran in the league and yet has the ability to cough the ball up while standing still. Once De’Andre Hunter comes back, it would be almost worth it to stick Hill down near the two-way players on the bench and call on him when there is a blowout.
