Atlanta Hawks trade partner – Why the OKC Thunder agree.

The Thunder are in the process of a rebuild since they conducted their firesale during the offseason. The Hawks already benefitted from this by getting Gallinari for a couple of second-round picks in a sign-and-trade.

They were the only team busier than the Hawks last offseason and their work is not yet done. They have a future superstar in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the backcourt as well as the developing Luguentz Dort.

Adding Collins to this mix would be tremendous for the Thunder. He would compliment this young core that the Thunder are building and he fits their timeline perfectly. The risk of this trade is that Collins walks to another team next season. However, they have the cap-space to temp him next season and would back their culture to get him to stay.

Rajon Rondo is an interesting piece to this puzzle. He has been statistically very bad for the Hawks and has also looked like he did not fit with the young team. He is a true pass-first point guard who will fit well with the Thunder’s 3-point shooting identity
