The Atlanta Hawks have been better this season than they were just 12 months ago. Considering how bad they were in 2019-20, this was not going to be difficult. They have done this by internal growth from their younger guys and by being very active on the free-agent market.

Obviously, as with any decision made about signing a player and what their role will be there are risks involved. For example, Bogdan Bogdanovic was surely going to start next to Trae Young given his contract size and term until he injured himself and is now out indefinitely.

Another example of this is the No. 6 pick in the 2020 draft Onyeka Okongwu. The rookie has missed more than 15 games through injury and has struggled to find a place in the rotation thanks to the stellar play of Clint Capela.

The Atlanta Hawks have some positive stories this season too.

The play of Capela has been at historic levels throughout the start of the season. The Hawks knew they were going to get a solid performer when he recovered from injury but leading the NBA in rebounds and being third in blocks is not something that could have been predicted.

Likewise, prior to his injury, De’Andre Hunter has taken a huge leap this season and his play had helped keep the Hawks in playoff contention, until his injury. He will develop further and will be a key piece in the Hawks’ future.

However, there are some players, both drafted by the Hawks and signed in the offseason, who are struggling a little or just not working out. Let’s take a look at those who are most likely to be traded as the Hawks look to improve their standing this season.
