Atlanta Hawks coaching candidate No. 2) Becky Hammon

Becky Hammon has had an entire career where she has been told that she could not do it. As a player in college, she was told that she was too small to make it into the WNBA. Well, 15 years and 450 games later Hammon retired a six-time All-Star.

She retired from playing in 2014 due to a knee injury, and moved straight into a role as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, under Gregg Popovich. She has learned from arguably the best coach in the game for the past six years and has shown tremendous knowledge of the game during that time.

Hammon has always had a good ability to relate to the players. She has also shown that she has the ability to see micro-adjustments that players need to make in order to improve their own game as well as the team aspect.

Hammon has continued to make history when she became the first female to coach an NBA game when Popovich was ejected this season. However, I feel that it is best to put aside gender because Hammon deserves to be a head coach on merit. The Hawks would do well to hire Hammon, she would be a tremendous asset for the franchise.
