Atlanta Hawks offseason signing grade No.7) Solomon  Hill

A rare Hawks player, Solomon Hill is one of only a handful of players to play in all games in the first half of the season. While Hill is quite solid defensively, there is a reason that not many teams were vying for his services. The Hawks got him on a veteran’s minimum contract.

He has received a whole lot more playing time than he would have expected at the start of the year thanks to the injury issues suffered by the Hawks in the first half of the season. He is averaging 19.1 minutes per game, and while he is showing that he can still be a pest on defense, his offense is very one-dimensional.

He is taking 3.1 attempts from behind the 3-point line. He is only taking 4.1 shot attempts per game. He is also not being very efficient, only hitting 31.8 percent of his shots from deep. This is not going to be enough to keep him in the rotation once the Hawks get more of their players back.

Then there is the question of his turnovers. Despite being in the league for seven full seasons, Hill still finds ways to turn the ball over that would embarrass a rookie. For a catch-and-shoot type player, 0.6 turnovers a game is too many. To put it into context, Kevin Huerter, who plays 12 more minutes a game and has ball-handling duties turns it over 1.3 times a game.
