Atlanta Hawks: Predicting the lineups once the team is healthy.
The Atlanta Hawks starting unit.
The Hawks starting unit has been fluid since the opening game. They have not been able to get their first choice unit onto the court at any given time due to injury. The team is fourth in the Eastern Conference and has not played a single game with their preferred starting unit on the court at the same time, that is impressive.
The starting backcourt has been a question that McMillan has finally answered with the way he is using the two-guard spot. Obviously Young is one member of the starting backcourt, with Bogdanovic being the other. His ability to shoot and be the secondary playmaker has made the Hawks starting unit so dangerous.
The starting pivot is Clint Capela who is having his best season in the league. He is leading the league in rebounding, is third in blocked shots, and surely has to be in the conversation for defensive player of the year.
The starting frontcourt has become even more dangerous with Capela beside them on offense and backing them up on defense. John Collins is the starting power forward and has become even more effective as a shot-blocker, and his one-on-one defense is not as exposed with Capela helping.
Collins offense has also taken a leap forward, especially outside the arc. The small forward is undoubtedly De’Andre Hunter who has taken a leap over the offseason. He has the ability to score at all three levels and is always willing to take the opposition’s best player on defense.
