Ways Trae Young will be crucial for the Atlanta Hawks No. 2) Paint penetration.

There are games when Young is cold from the outside and still has a massive impact on the team’s offense. In these games he is able to get past his defender, usually using the pick and roll, and get into the paint.

When he gets in there, Young usually has his defender behind him, freezing him out of the play. From there, the world is Young’s oyster. All he then needs to do is read what the defense gives him, which he has improved this season through better decision-making this season.

If the opposition center steps up to defend Young, he has such a good connection with Clint Capela and John Collins that he is able to lob the pass over the top or around the opposition defender for the easy bucket. He is also developing chemistry with rookie Onyeka Okongwu like this.

The other option open to Young is his running floater which he uses to great effect. In games where the opposition pivot likes to stay at home, Young simply shoots his floater from six or eight feet and hits a very high percentage of them. He also is able to draw the foul and get to the line, where he is incredibly good.
