Clint Capela was a revelation for the Atlanta Hawks this season. The center was traded to the Hawks right before the league stoppage due to covid, also while also recovering from a heel injury. So, Hawks fans had to wait a long time to see what he could do and he did not disappoint.
Capela averaged 15.2 points and 14.3 rebounds a game this year. In the playoffs, he averaged 10.1 points and 11.2 rebounds where he had some struggles defending Joel Embiid.
As he is only 27 and in the prime of his career as the anchor for the Hawks. He has two years left on his five-year, 90 million dollar deal he signed with the Houston Rockets. Some people believe with Onyeka Okongwu on the roster as the future at the center position, the Hawks may allow Capela to finish out his deal before moving on. The rebounding leader still can give some of his best years and leadership to this team until then.
The Atlanta Hawks need Clint Capela in the paint again this season
The Hawks will need his presence in the paint as many Hawks know, they haven’t had a true and productive center like Capela for years. When he was playing his best the Hawks were like a different team. Capela really has a very simple role for this team, rebound, block shots, defend and score when given the opportunity. This past year he definitely excelled in that role for this team.
Capela still has some holes in his game that he can still improve at this point in his career. If he can make these improvements, it will make his game even more redefined. I explore 3 improvements Capela can make to his game.
