Atlanta Hawks offseason improvement for Kevin Huerter No.2) Improve his playmaking
Huerter has been looked at as a player who could be a good secondary playmaker to Trae Young. Some even think he could log some time at point guard. However, after the moves the Hawks made in the draft and via the Delon Wright trade, he won’t be asked to play much point. Huerter averaged 3.3 assists in the regular season and 2.8 in the playoffs.
As mentioned earlier, Huerter has a very good basketball IQ and isn’t afraid to make the right basketball play. As he continues to be a bigger offensive threat, that will open up opportunities to find the open shooter.
If Huerter can stay at 3.0 assists and even get to 4.0 a game that’s huge just in terms of taking the pressure of Young. Then also with Huerter running with the second unit, creating better shots makes that entire unit that much better and effective.
Then also creating through deflections and steals on the defensive end, Huerter can use that to help the Hawks create fast-break opportunities and be the man leading those breaks. Huerter really has the ability to do a bit of everything. This ability makes him very valuable to the Hawks and playmaking is just one string to his bow.
