When the Atlanta Hawks selected Sharife Cooper with the 48th in the 2021 NBA draft, they knew that they were getting a steal. The rookie point guard has shown some glimpses of his potential in summer league action and the signs are all good.

While he has had his issues with turnovers, there is still plenty to like about his game. Cooper is not afraid of the big moments, showing that he can hit the clutch 3-ball as required. For a player who had question marks over his 3-point shooting, ask the Indiana Pacers.

Cooper needs to learn the basics about playing in the NBA, as every other rookie does. He needs to be able to prepare his body for travel, differing game times, and the grind of the season. On top of that, he is going to play for both the G-League franchise and the varsity squad. It is going to be difficult, to say the least.

The Atlanta Hawks also need to develop Sharife Cooper’s game.

Despite Cooper’s strong showing in this year’s summer league, he is still the third or fourth-string point guard on the Hawks roster. Young is obviously the first choice, with Delon Wright being the second option for the team. Skylar Mays is probably ahead of Cooper in the rotation as well.

As such, Cooper is going to have to spend as much time in the film room as he is on the court. Young has a similar game to Cooper and will certainly be a boon for the youngster. However, Cooper will also need to study players from the past. Here are three that will help him progress.
