Legend for Atlanta Hawks rookie Jalen Johnson to study No. 1) Shawn Kemp

Shawn Kemp had an amazing career with the Seattle Supersonics before playing three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, two with the Portland Trail Blazers, and one with the Orlando Magic. He was a six-time All-Star and was named to three different All-NBA teams as well.

Kemp was a bundle of supreme athleticism who was able to perform some truly incredible things on the court. His ability to dunk was incredible. However, Kemp had to learn how to slow down so that he could control his moves. He was so much harder to stop because of this because he used to miss easy looks because he was going too fast.

This is a skill that Johnson could benefit from. When you make it in the NBA, everything is so much faster than anywhere else you have played. The temptation is to try and speed up to match this pace. Most of the top players have hesitation moves, actually slowing down to help them score.

Kemp also had a tremendous relationship with his point guard, Gary Payton. It is important for any big man to get on the same page as his point guard so that they can work in the pick and roll, or the pick and pop. Johnson has to learn how to work with Trae Young so that he can benefit the team more
