Atlanta Hawks goal for Danilo Gallinari No. 1) Lead the league in free throw percentage.
Gallinari has always been a really good free-throw shooter. Currently, he is the seventh-best active player in the NBA. The players above him are a who’s who of shooters. They are Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, J.J. Redick, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Khris Middleton. This is an incredible group of players to be associated with.
On top of this, he is the 22nd best free throw shooter the league has ever seen, based on his 87.6 career percentage. Just think about all the great shooters that have been in the league and there are only 21 better than Gallinari from the line.
Last season Gallinari finished third in free throw percentage, making an incredible 92.5 percent from the charity stripe. This is the best number so far in Gallinari’s career. The only two better than Gallinari were Damian Lilland with 92.6 percent and Chris Paul with 93.4 percent.
Given how close he was to being the best in the league in this category for an entire season, it is conceivable that Gallinari could be the best free-throw shooter next season. He made an incredible 161-of-174 of his attempts. Had he have made two more free throws, he would have led the league. He is that close.
