Atlanta Hawks goals for Solomon Hill No. 1) Take more than 40 percent of his shots from inside the arc.

Last season the Hawks use Hill in a 3-and-D role which is fine for when he is in the second unit. Unfortunately for Hill and the Hawks, his 3-point percentage for last season was only 32.1 percent which is a little under his career number of 33.3 percent.

The problem is that if the Hawks want to play Hill as a true 3-and-D player, they would like this number to be higher. He has done this before in other seasons but Hill’s shooting is not consistent which is a problem.

Part of this issue is that if Hill shoots the ball, it is usually from behind the line. Last season he took 4.2 field goal attempts per game.. Of these, 3.0 of them were from behind the 3-point line. This is 71.0 percent of his total shots for the season.

If Hill was to take more than 40 percent of his shots from inside the arc, he would put more doubt into the opposition. No longer could they stay as close while defending on the perimeter which would then open up Hill’s ability to drive or pass the ball more, helping him gain more time on the court.
