Players for Atlanta Hawks pivot Clint Capela to study No. 2) Tim Duncan
Over a 19-year career, Tim Duncan managed to average 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 blocks in 34.0 minutes per game. These numbers led him to have a Hall of Fame career which included 15 All-Star appearances, all from concentrating on basketball fundamentals and doing them better than anyone else in his generation for such an extended period of time.
He did them so well that he was able to lead his team to five NBA titles, which is impressive given that the first one was in 1999 and the last one was in 2014. He won three Finals MVP awards in those series as well as two regular-season MVP awards.
Duncan was also named to 15 All-NBA teams and 15 All-Defensive teams, such was the brilliance of the man. Offensively Duncan rarely shot the ball from any sort of distance, preferring to take his shots from within ten feet. He took 65 percent of his shots from within that distance over his career.
If Capela can continue to improve his defense to get to a similar level to that of Duncan’s then the Hawks will benefit. However, if Capela also gets his offense to similar effectiveness then he is going to be very hard to stop.
