Atlanta Hawks: 3 goals for Lou Williams in the 2021-22 season
The Atlanta Hawks rectified one of their only mistakes in the 2020 offseason when they traded Rajon Rondo to the LA Clippers, receiving Lou Williams in return. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year came to the Hawks despite thinking about retirement thanks to the trade.
Thankfully Williams did not retire as he helped fix the Hawks’ offensive issues when Trae Young was off the court. He was also able to help fix their fourth-quarter fadeouts as this is Lou Williams’ time. His fourth-quarter heroics won the Hawks many games that they were losing under ex-head coach Lloyd Pierce.
Williams even started his first playoff game after Young got injured by a freak incident involving the foot of a referee. He gave everything that he had and it helped the Hawks get the win in the Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately, Williams was not enough to get the Hawks past the Bucks who would go on to win the championship.
The Atlanta Hawks were right to re-sign Lou Williams.
Williams has still got plenty to give on the basketball court. He is an incredible mentor for the second-year man Onyeka Okongwu and was responsible for Okongwu becoming a fixture of the second unit. This meant we were able to see what Okongwu could do defensively, which was really good, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals against Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Now that the Hawks re-sign Williams to a one-year, $5.0 million deal, let’s take a look a the three goals for the 2021-22 season for Lou Williams.
