Legends for Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins to study No. 1) Karl Malone

Named the Mail Man because he always delivered, Karl Malone was always on form for the Utah Jazz. The only thing he could not deliver for the franchise was a championship but that is understandable because he was playing in the same era as Michael Jordan.

What Malone had was a complete understanding of his own game. He was strong enough to overpower most of his opponents, but he also had a good shooting touch from the mid-range. This is the type of mix of styles that is always going to go well for a power forward.

The other advantage that Malone had was that he and his point guard, John Stockton, were on the same page. Stockton is one of the greatest point guards of all time and he knew where to put the ball to benefit his big man.

Trae Young is starting to develop a similar ability, especially when it comes to the restricted area. Collins was his favorite target last season which is going to help the Wake Forest alum get some easy points which always helps a player’s confidence. Malone never had any issues with his confidence, Collins sometimes looks as though he does.
