Legends for Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young to study No. 1) John Stockton

Young is going to be a generational talent at only 6’1″, which is the same height as one of the best point guards of all time, John Stockton. The former Utah Jazz floor general had something about him which just made him better than most of his peers.

The first part of the puzzle that Young needs to unlock is game management. Now that he is being coached by Nate McMillan he is getting a better understanding of this skill. Stockton was an absolute master at increasing or decreasing the tempo, understanding what his team needed at any given team.

Another area that Young should study is the connection that Stockton had with his team on offense. Young already has a tremendous connection with his big men, particularly in the restricted area, but there are always areas to improve. Stockton was one of the best at exploiting every advantage that he could.

Stockton was also a very strong man for his size. This is why he was able to hold his own against bigger players, especially on the defensive end. If Young can get stronger, then he also will be able to be better with his one-on-one defense, helping the team even more.
