Atlanta Hawks: 3 goals for Kevin Huerter in the 2021-22 season
Season goals for Atlanta Hawks swingman Kevin Huerter No. 3) Earn his next deal
The Hawks spent the offseason guaranteeing their future by signing John Collins to a deal and offering Trae Young a rookie-max extension. They then extended Clint Capela for another two seasons on top of his current deal.
Huerter was taken later in the same draft as Young and therefore was also eligible for his rookie extension. At the time of writing, Huerter had yet to be offered an extension which means that he is now playing for his contract next season.
The problem for Huerter and the Hawks is they have to consider next season as well. Reddish and Hunter are both going to be eligible for their extension. They also have Wright, Williams, Solomon Hill, and Gorgui Dieng who are all coming out of contract next season and everyone needs to get paid.
Huerter is a vital piece for the Hawks and it would be very sad to see him go. However, if the Hawks do not pay him next season then there are going to be a large number of teams looking to utilize the services of the diversely talented wing and they certainly will be happy to remunerate the versatile Huerter.
