Goals for Atlanta Hawks big man Gorgui Dieng No. 1) Establish himself in the rotation

The first thing that a newly-signed player needs to do when he starts with a new team is to establish his role with that team. Fortunately for Dieng, he has already established himself as an NBA player and the Hawks already have a role envisaged for him.

Dieng is going to be the primary backup for Capela, at least until Okongwu returns. Fortunately for Dieng, he has three months of the season to establish his bona fides with the team and the coaching staff. This should be more than enough time for a veteran like Dieng.

Once Okongwu returns, assuming there are no other long-term injury concerns for the big men, Dieng would see a reduction in minutes. However, if he plays in a manner that fits with the team’s playing style then he should still get plenty of court time.

If he can do this then Dieng will help take the Hawks as far as they made it last season, possibly beyond that. This is the impact that Dieng could have once he has established himself in the rotation.
