Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk has had his first press conference of the new season. There was mixed news for the Hawks faithful as he announced that De’Andre Hunter was not going to be a full participant in training camp.
He was not the only injury news of concern with Bogdan Bogdanovic also not being a full participant. However, he had an update on another player who is not injured but is struggling to get to Atlanta in time to report for training camp.
The franchise signed Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot to a non-guaranteed deal leading into training camp, looking to assess how he would play with the team. Unfortunately for all parties involved, Luwawu-Cabarrot is having visa issues and is struggling to leave his home country of France
The Atlanta Hawks need to have Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot report to camp.
The Hawks are already going to be two wings down when they start training camp. Without Hunter and Bogdanovic being able to participate in full drills and the like, coach Nate McMillan will need to have some wings take the court to run his systems.
Not only that, Luwawu-Cabbarot is going to want to get as much time in front of the coaches as he can so that he can convert his non-guaranteed deal that he is currently on. Like all players in the league, he wants to find a home for his talents and know where the next paycheck is coming from.
There are still a few days for the issue to be sorted out and the Hawks are hopeful to have Luwawu-Cabbarot in camp next week. Without him, the Hawks are going to be pretty thin at wing but that is a position they have found themselves in quite often over the last 12 months. They have found a way to overcome it every time and this time will be no different.
