Atlanta Hawks: 3 goals for De’Andre Hunter in the 2021-22 season
Season goal for Atlanta Hawks wing De’Andre Hunter No. 3) Win the Most Improved Player award
Last season, prior to his injury, Hunter was one of the early contenders for the award. His numbers were not a great deal better than the previous seasons, but his impact on the game was certainly greater. It is actually difficult to say just how much he would have improved had his season not ended as abruptly as it did.
The other factor was that most of the Hawks improved when Nate McMillan took over from Lloyd Pierce prior to the All-Star break. Who is to say that Hunter’s play would not have gone up another level as well. His potential is there for all to see.
If he was to improve his scoring average to over 20.0 points per game as well as increasing his efficiency from deep, then he will be in contention for the award. McMillan is likely to use the third-year player to much greater effect when he is able to return to the lineup.
The thing is, Hunter showed us what he can do when he is alone to develop his body and game. Just imagine what he can achieve when he is around his teammates and the coaching staff for a full preseason. Yes, he might not be able to fully participate in training camp but he can still take in all the information and work on his upper body strength.
