Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu’s offseason improvement No.2) Developing a reliable jumper

Okongwu is still developing his offensive game and the next piece he could add to his game is a jumper. While a more developed post game would help too but it feels like the energy he plays with inside scoring wouldn’t be the issue.

He does not yet have to develop a three-point shot just improve in the mid-range. This is due to the fact that he isn’t going to be asked to score the ball, his main focus is on defense and rebounding. So best thing he can do is be efficient when the shots are there.

This will also help when the Hawks do run the pick and roll. Defenses are not only worried about the alley-oop which is a big part of the Hawks identity. Just imagine if Okongwu could step out and hit the jumper.

This will make teams pick their poison. Do they either collapse on the driving player or do they leave Okongwu open for the mid-range shot? If he makes them at a good percentage too it makes the Hawks all the more dangerous. Okongwu is looking to develop his offense and at 20 years of age, he has time. A jump shot will help his career progression
