Atlanta Hawks : 3 Improvements Onyeka Okongwu must make this season
By Brice Lewis
Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu’ offseason improvement No.3) Work on his body to stay healthy
As mentioned earlier, Okongwu is again missing the start of this season. He also missed the first ten games of his rookie season. One thing that you have to hope for is that he isn’t an injury-prone player.
He is young and you don’t want a what-if situation in terms of his potential because of that. He did show toughness playing though his torn-rotator cuff at the end of last season which is the one that he had repaired in the offseason. The best player is still and always will be an available player. Okongwu has to stay healthy this season after he returns.
Then another reason why he needs to be healthy is with the Hawks adding Gorgui Dieng it is going to be a fight for minutes at the center position. Dieng is going to have the chance early to keep that backup center spot if he plays well enough.
Okongwu when he gets back needs to stay healthy and then he needs to remind us why we are excited for him to be back on the floor. The competition on this team could be a very good thing for Okongwu as it will help to push him to be the best he can be.
If Okongwu continues to improve he has a bright future ahead of him. The Hawks are ready to see the strides that he makes to be a overall better player.
