The Atlanta Hawks have signed Ibi Watson to a deal in a move that will have gone unnoticed by many. In a manner similar to the DaQuan Jeffries deal, which was signed after A.J. Lawson was waived, Watson is almost certain not to see any time with the varsity squad.

Watson is an undrafted rookie who played his first two college seasons in Michigan sat out a season before playing his final college season for Dayton. He averaged 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 22.5 minutes per game in the 31 contests he played for the college.

The 6’5″ guard had an impressive level of efficiency in his year at Dayton. He went 49.8 percent from the field, 39.3 percent from behind the arc, and hit 84.5 percent from behind the line. He has the ability to take the right shot at the right time.

The Atlanta Hawks signed Ibi Watson to play for the G-League squad.

Watson is going to play this season for the College Park Skyhawks. This is fantastic for the Georgia native meaning that he can still play ball in his home state. This is also tremendous for the Skyhawks as local connections are usually a positive thing.

This gives the Skyhawks an incredibly potent backcourt with their two-way players Sharife Cooper and Skylar Mays as well as potentially Lawson and Jeffries. Watson has the size to play on the wing as well which is going to give the Skyhawks some flexibility.

The Atlanta Hawks have too much quality in these positions to believe that they will need to promote the 23-year-old to the varsity squad. However, the Hawks are not going to miss the chance to develop one of their homegrown talents, you never know what the rewards could be down the track.
