Should the Atlanta Hawks sign Avery Bradley after he was waived?

The Atlanta Hawks are still looking to fill their 15th roster spot and there is a chance that they could gain some NBA experience if they sign Avery Bradley. The veteran was waived by the Golden State Warriors with less than a week to go before the season per Shams of The Athletic.

What Avery brings to a team is tremendous defensive acumen as a potential backup to the wing position. He was an NBA champion two years ago with the Los Angeles Lakers and with the Hawks being in win-now mode, this could be incredibly beneficial for the Hawks.

Bradley is 30 years old who has played 11 seasons in the league. He could be another quality veteran to add for this young core to learn off. He showed with the Miami Heat last season that he could still take and make the right shots, going 42.1 percent from deep.

The Atlanta Hawks probably should not go for Avery Bradley

The Hawks have already got a lot of defensive talent in the wing positions. Not only do they have De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish, but Kevin Huerter showed some good defensive growth last season. On top of that Bogdan Bogdanovic is surprising many with his defense.

Bradley is a less impactful Tony Snell who was better due to his incredibly high percentages last season but Mr 50/40/90 did not attempt enough shots to be a true threat on the court. On top of this, after Bradley was traded from the Heat he shot an appalling 27.0 percent from deep with the Houston Rockets.

Bradley is coming to the end of his career and it is unlikely that he will be able to play out full seasons anymore. He only managed 27 games total last season over the two teams that he played on. Bradley has always had issues staying on the court, having only played more than 70 games in a season twice in his career.

The Hawks would be far better off if they gave their last roster spot to Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot or converted Sharife Cooper’s two-way deal. Bradley just does not move the needle enough to risk signing him.
