Ex Atlanta Hawks guard Brandon Goodwin finds new NBA home

Less than a week out from the start of the season ex Atlanta Hawks guard Brandon Goodwin has finally found another home in the NBA. The New York Knicks waived Dwayne Bacon in order to create the roster spot for Goodwin to be signed per Fred Katz of the Athletic.

The Hawks decided not to pursue Goodwin in the offseason after they drafted Sharife Cooper in the second round. As a result of the young dynamo’s energy, effort, and the game that he bought to the court the Hawks appear to have made the right call. His play in this year’s summer league and then in the preseason games has reinforced that.

They also traded Kris Dunn and Bruno Fernando to secure the services of Delon Wright who is an established backup point guard in the league. This meant that any opportunity for Goodwin to get any playing time was gone.

Atlanta Hawks fans will be sad to see Brandon Goodwin go.

One of the many benefits of Goodwin is that he gave everything that he had every time that he took to the court. Unfortunately due to being 6’0″ and 180 pounds, Goodwin was too small to make a huge impact on a regular basis.

Yes, he was a similar size to Trae Young, what Goodwin does not have is the same offensive ability that the Hawks star brings every night. However, he worked his way past Rajon Rondo in the rotation last season and performed incredibly well when he was called on to start.

Goodwin could have been a fantastic long-term project for the Hawks but in a way has been a victim of the team’s success from last season. They are now totally in win-now mode and they wanted every player on the roster able to give the team what is needed now.

It is tremendous that Goodwin has been able to find another franchise to further his NBA career. He is a tremendous talent, boasting lightning-fast speed and decent shooting ability.
