The Atlanta Hawks had a fantastic first-up victory over the Dallas Mavericks. They were able to limit the influence of Luka Doncic which meant the final margin of 26 points seemed about right. The Hawks were so much better than the Mavericks on the night.

Cam Reddish top-scored for the Hawks despite coming off the bench and Trae Young orchestrated the offense finishing with 14 assists to go along with 19 points. He also had five turnovers but we can forgive him this given how good he was on the night.

The Hawks’ next opponent, the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to be on the second night of a back-to-back and have lost both games that they have played this season. They looked reasonable against their last opponent, the Charlotte Hornets, it is their first game of the season against the Memphis Grizzlies which offers the best indication of what may happen in the Hawks game.

Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is set for an offensive explosion

Young had a true point guard game against the Mavericks, he passed the ball well, while also not forcing many shots. However, the Cavaliers do not have a player who can go with Young defensively, as was shown by the Grizzlies game.

Ja Morant, a player whose outside shot is the weakest part of his offensive game, was able to get 29 shots off against the Cavaliers’ defense, hitting 58.6 percent of them. This gave him 37 points for the night and he was a huge catalyst for the Grizzlies win.

Young has a reasonable record against the Cavaliers, averaging 24.4 points and 9.4 assists per game. He has played them on eight occasions over his three years in the league and this season he has the best supporting cast around him. This is going to make him even harder to stop due to the defense not being able to focus as much on him as it normally does.
