Atlanta Hawks: 1 stud and 1 dud from tough loss to the Cavs
The Atlanta Hawks 101-95 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers is more of a learning experience than anything. It would have been nice to get the win over a team that narrowly beat them in the preseason. But this one is still so early in the season and the Hawks will certainly have their chance to exact revenge later in the season.
They’ll have to figure out how to overcome the lengthy starting lineup the Cavs trot out featuring three players standing 6-foot-11 or above including former Chicago Bull Lauri Markkanen at small forward.
Trae Young led all scorers with 24 points and had nine assists. But he struggled from the floor, especially from deep, and had a pair of costly turnovers late.
He wasn’t alone as the team shot just 38.4 percent overall and 29.4 percent from outside.
The Atlanta Hawks had a rougher go of things in their second game of the season
Clint Capela deserves an honorable mention for ‘stud’ with a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double and John Collins had 12 boards of his own. But Bogdan Bogdanovic struggled to get going as did Kevin Huerter; the latter for the second game in a row.
Per Capela himself, via Sarah K. Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, it is imperative that they, and the team as a whole, play hard night in and night out.
They’ll try to bounce back on Monday against the downtrodden Detroit Pistons who just lost to the Bulls for the second time in four nights.
Before that, let’s get to the studs and duds from a game the Hawks will probably look back on and say they should have won. They did take two of three meetings between these two teams last season, after all.
