The Atlanta Hawks have continued on their road woes from last season, this time at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers to the tune of 28 points. This loss is concerning in that they had almost all of their squad available but we should not be worried yet, as was discussed previously.
This means that the Hawks have a 3-3 record on the season and this sees them in 10th, which is only good for the last play-in spot. However, the season is still in its infancy and a lot can happen in the remaining 76 games.
However, the problem is that the Hawks’ road struggles span back to the end of last season as well. That is the regular season anyway, the Hawks were incredible on the road in the playoffs. In order to get there, they need to win some more games on the
The Atlanta Hawks road record from last season is still relevant
Normally a team will have some of its better role players or even some of its top talent move during the offseason. This is not the case for the Hawks who retained their top nine players in points per game from last season including Trae Young and John Collins amongst others who signed new contracts and extensions.
Through the last 14 road games in the 2020-21 season, the Hawks went 5-9 which saw them miss out on the fourth seed by losing the season series to the New York Knicks. While it did not matter in the end, they would have preferred the comforts of home to start the series.
This season the Hawks have a 1-3 record on the road, losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Washington Wizards, and now the 76ers. Given that they could meet the Wizards or the 76ers in the playoffs, they need to fix their road blues.
The Hawks have only two games at home in the next seven. This includes a four-game Western Conference road trip with games against the best two teams in the West from last season as well as the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors. The fifth road game is against the Brooklyn Nets in a matchup that may have huge ramifications at the end of the season.
If the Hawks can split their Western conference swing, win the two games at home and continue their good record against the Nets, their season will be back on track. If not, they will be facing an uphill battle until at least the All-Star break.
