Atlanta Hawks bench star Lou Williams has recently stated that theis season is most likely going to be his last in an interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report. This will be sad if this is the case as the Atlanta native has amazed us for 17 years on an NBA floor, including two stints in his home state.

Williams has had a tremendous career, carving out a role off the bench like no other in the history of the league. He has redefined the sixth man role along with the likes of Jamal Crawford, showing that you do not have to be a starter to have a long career in the NBA.

It is not like he can’t start though. he was called on in the Eastern Conference Finals to start in place of the injured Trae Young. He showed us what he can do in a pressure situation and even helped the Hawks to the win, he just feels more comfortable coming off the bench.

The Atlanta Hawks need to see Lou Williams off in style.

In his 17 years Williams developed in a certified scorer, this being the reason he was able to win the Sixth Man of the Year award three times.. Given that he averaged 1.9 points per game in his rookie season, he shows what you can accomplish with talent and hard work.

However, one thing that the Hawks would like to send Lou Williams off with is a shiny new championship ring. They are in win-now mode and they pursued Williams in the offseason to help them accomplish this goal.

While Williams has never been on any All-NBA teams, or even an All-Star., he is missing a championship from his resume. This would be a fitting way to end the career of the player who helped redefine a key role in the NBA.
