Atlanta Hawks dud from loss to the Nets: The marksmen were all off-target vs BK

The Hawks didn’t shoot the ball very well from outside as a team. They went 13-of-35, or, 37.1 percent on their three-pointers. Aside from Huerter, Hunter, and Young, the Hawks were just 3-of-14. Collins was 1-of-5 and certainly needs to be sharper on those shots. But he wasn’t the biggest offender on the night, all things considered.

Bogdan Bogdanovic has been solid after a bit of a slow start that saw him score just five points in the second game of the season. Since then, he’s averaging 13.8 points on 50 percent shooting and 43.5 percent of his threes.

So his eight points on 30 percent shooting (1-of-5 from deep) come as a disappointment on a night when the Hawks opponent had the three-ball working.

Danilo Gallinari compounded the issue.

A game after earning the ‘stud’ of the game against the Wizards for his 12-points and 4-of-7 threes, the 6-foot-10 forward flopped with seven points while going 1-for-4 from downtown. It’s his fourth time in five games with single-digit points. After sitting out the first three games, the 14-year vet is likely still getting his legs under him.

The Hawks will need him as well as Lou Williams, who went 1-for-6 in just 11 minutes; his fewest minutes in a game this season even with Delon Wright a DNP-coach’s decision.

It’s a long season and these are three professional bucket getters. But when they aren’t the Hawks will struggle to beat a lot of opponents. Bogdanovic added three steals, Gallinari three boards, and Williams five dimes. But they are there to score.

We’ve talked about the bench’s struggles for production outside of Cam Reddish — who himself struggled to two points on 16.7 percent shooting. They cannot have too many outings such as this if they want to make another deep playoff run. The same goes for Bogdanovic, perhaps even more so, as a starter.
