Atlanta Hawks dud from skid-snapping win over MIL: We may have seen the last of the middy

On media day, a few Hawks players mentioned wanting to incorporate the mid-range into the games to make it harder for opponents to guard them. They have definitely put in the effort, increasing their attempts from the area of the floor that has found some renewed popularity in the last year or so.

They’ve gone from 10.3 mid-range attempts last year to 16.1 this season. They’re shooting 40.4 percent on those looks compared to 43.1 percent a year ago. They averaged a league-leading 18.6 attempts from the mid-range while they started 4-3.

During their slide, they were 10th with 13.6 attempts from the mid-range.

However, in their win on Sunday, the Hawks took 18 mid-range shots and hit six of them. But they were 3-of-6 through the first three quarters before going 3-for-8 in the fourth quarter.

Atlanta shot 56.5 percent from the floor overall in the final frame.

We’ll have to see what they do going forward. Though, not long with the Magic on deck for Monday. They are allowing opponents to knock down 46.5 percent of their looks from mid-range; the third-highest rate in the NBA this season. It could be prudent to try attacking the zone, at least early on, against a lesser opponent.

Next. Studs and duds from a very disappointing road trip. dark

The Magic are 29th averaging just 99.1 points per game this season though they have averaged 104 points on the road. Meanwhile, the Hawks are now averaging 114.2 points per game at home as opposed to 103.8 points on the road.
