The Atlanta Hawks didn’t waste any time getting back to their winning ways with a resounding 121-110 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It brings their record to 13-12 overall and 5-8 on the road. In a bit of a reversal of sorts, it also comes as they have lost their last three home games.

What stood out most about this game was how they went about things with an even shorter bench than the night before after losing another player to injury and sending rookie Jalen Johnson back down to the G-League.

Those guys had no bearing on the offensive onslaught, particularly from deep, as the Hawks set a franchise record with 25 made threes.

Trae Young led all scorers with 29 points and 11 assists for his 13th double-double of the season; the 12th-most in the NBA and one behind James Harden for the lead among guards. Young also had seven rebounds and a couple of steals. But, in sticking with the theme of this game, he shot 4-of-9 from downtown.

Young currently leads the league in total points and assists this season.

The Atlanta Hawks buried the Minnesota Timberwolves from long distance

He wasn’t alone as John Collins had 13 points on 3-of-6 threes to go with six boards, an assist, and a block. Collins has now canned 10 of his last 18 triples after going 1-for-5 in the loss to the New York Knicks. Collins also held his assignments to 7-of-17 shooting combined, including 5-of-11 from star center Karl Anthony-Towns.

Kevin Huerter hit just 2-of-6 threes as part of his 10 points but was locked in defensively, holding his matchups to 6-of-20 shooting. The Hawks also got 20 points, including 4-of-6 threes, from Danilo Gallinari and even saw Gorgui Dieng go 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Clint Capela had his fourth-straight single-digit scoring game, but the Hawks didn’t need it as he grabbed 16 boards and had four blocks with four assists and a steal.
