Atlanta Hawks stud after fourth-straight road win: Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot was on fire from outside

It had already been a strong early return from Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot as he took over for the injured Bogdan Bogdanovic in the starting lineup. Averaging just 6.7 points thanks to an 0-for-2 goose egg against the Philadelphia 76ers, TLC still played solid defense holding his assignments 2.6 percent their usual efficiency.

He went off, knocking down a career-best seven threes on his way to 23 points. His 14 attempts from behind the arc were also a new career-high and led the team as he tied with Young for the team lead in overall attempts.

Luwawu-Cabarrot was 3-of-5 from outside for nine points in the first quarter alone but also scored 11 of his points in the second half.

He did this while maintaining his defensive presence.

Anthony Edwards was 3-of-11 from the floor and 1-for-3 from deep with three turnovers and the Timberwolves were just 4-of-17 when guarded by TLC. It’s just the kind of defense the Hawks have needed with Cam Reddish joining De’Andre Hunter on the shelf for the time being. He’s gotten hot on offense before too.

This was just the 10th 20-point performance of his career.

After the game, his head coach and teammates were full of praise in postgame comments via Sarah K. Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"“He’s been really good. I really like the way he plays. He’s able to establish the type of defense we want to play out there.” – Nate McMillan"

Luwawu-Cabarrot said “Defense is big for me. That’s where my head is at when I’m in the game.”

That may be the case. But he was certainly locked in on offense in this contest too. The Hawks could use more performances like this one.
