The Atlanta Hawks G League affiliate the College Park Skyhawks have had a rough start to the season. They have yet to win a game out of eight tries which leaves them as the only winless tema in the entire league.

This means that they are sitting at the bottom of the standings in the East, two games behind the Long Island Nets who are the team’s next opponent. Despite some incredible performances from their two-way players and Jalen Johnson, the Skyhawks have been outclassed every time they have hit the court.

They had the opportunity to take a victory against the Westchester Knicks in their second game in their mini baseball-type series but were unable to get over the line. However, now that Onyeka Okongwu is going to play a couple of games for them, he could help get the Skyhawks season back on track.

The Atlanta Hawks will be interested to see how Onyeka Okongwu holds up

Okongwu has not bounced a basketball in anger since the Hawks were knocked out of the playoffs in the Eastern Conference Finals by the eventual champions, the Milwaukee Bucks. He went under the knife to fix his shoulder soon after which could have had a fairly significant impact on the Hawks offseason signings.

Fortunately for the Hawks part of Okongwu’s recovery was over the offseason but he has still missed a quarter of the season. As such the Hawks are using the Skyhawks to get Okongwu back into game shape which is a key for the big man to be able to make an impact on the varisty squad as soon as he is able.

Okongwu stated at the start of his recovery that he was looking to come back early and it appears that he is indeed ahead of schedule. If Okongwu can make it through the next couple of games with the Skyhawks, he may help two teams this season.
