The Atlanta Hawks were really struggling throughout the Christmas period through to the start of January. Then they started to get their players back and ended the month on a decent streak. Getting De’Andre Hunter and Kevin Huerter back certainly helped this situation.
Entering February, the Hawks were starting to get back into the playoff race. In the lead-up to the All-Star break, they went 4-4 for the month which is good enough to stay in the play-in seedings. Given how the Hawks finished last season, this has to be seen as a massive underperformance.
They have had their fair share of issues which explains their lowly position including injuries to key players. Bogdan Bogdanovic was injured against the New York Knicks where he missed four games and then missed another five in January. Since returning from the second stint on the sidelines, he has accepted a bench role which highlights the quality of the man’s character.
Bogdan Bogdanovic has been huge for the Atlanta Hawks in February.
While the most important player in the second unit is Danilo Gallinari who the Hawks play through when he is on the court, Bogdanovic is a close second. The Serbian Sharpshooter has had an incredible February from the bench.
Prior to the All-Star break, Bogdanovic hit 25 of his 3-point attempts which is second in the league for the month. He also netted 129 total points which was third in the NBA for total points scored off the bench.
This was a big reason that the Hawks were able to have a .500 record for the month. It is also why Bogdanovic is finishing games because his production and floor spacing allow Trae Young to create as defenses are not able to lock in on the superstar.
With the exception of the last shot against the Chicago Bulls, Bogdanovic has been taking really good shots where he is open and un-hurried. He is a good shooter in traffic and this will continue to help the Hawks down the stretch of the season
