The College Park Skyhawks took on the Delaware Blue Coats with a large portion of their core out. Jalen Johnson had been called up to the Atlanta Hawks, hopefully getting a larger role with the franchise thanks to John Collins being sidelined.
They were also missing Skylar Mays who was assigned to the varsity squad and Sharife Cooper was out with injury. After a massive triple-double for the Skyhawks prior to the All-Star break, Cooper came crashing back to earth in the next game, which could be a potential issue moving forward with the second two-way slot.
On top of this, the Skyhawks were also missing Jahlil Tripp and DaQuan Jeffries which left them incredibly thin. They only had eight players in the rotation, with the eighth player, Lamont West, only receiving three minutes of game time. As a result the Skyhawks fought valiantly but fell short of the victory
Cat Barber continues to audition for an Atlanta Hawks contract.
Since Cat Barber has returned from his call-up to the varsity squad during the Covid-19 crisis, he has been on a tear for the Skyhawks. The way that he is playing is causing the Hawks and Skyhawks to have a Sharife Cooper problem where the rookie is not fitting with either team.
Barber has shown a willingness to work hard and has the ability to finsh at the rim which will allow him to be a good third option behind Trae Young and Delon Wright. He is also an excellent free throw shooter which could help the Hawks at the end of quarters.
One of the biggest problems for Barber is that the Hawks are reluctant to play rookies. Despite being a six-year veteran of the G League after completing three seasons of college ball, Barber is still a rookie in terms of NBA experience.
However, those who follow the Skyhawks see that Barber is able to produce at a high level. If he can take a few minutes a game for the Hawks then this would help Young and Wright navigate the season a little easier and would give the Hawks an oppourtunity to audition Barber for a role next season.
