Lou Williams turned back the clock against the Pistons for the Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks were very close to pulling off an amazing feat this season. However, that little bit of history was stopped for this season by the overtime loss suffered at the hands of the young and talented Detroit Pistons who have a bright future ahead.
The chief destroyer of the Hawks for the night was the No. 1 pick from the 2021 NBA draft Cade Cunningham. The Hawks chose to use Bogdan Bogdanovic on the rookie rather than unleashing De’Andre Hunter who was matched up against the Pistons forward pack for the night.
The biggest problem for the Hawks is that Trae Young had an off night with his shooting. He went 5-of-20 from the floor and 2-of-7 from deep. The fact he went 2-of-4 from the line shows that he was not on his usual shooting form. Young only scored 14 points to go along with 12 assists but he had five turnovers.
Fortunately for the Atlanta Hawks, Lou Williams was on his game.
Lou Williams looked to have turned the clock back for the Pistons game. He came out and his shot just looked so smooth, making five of his first six shots for 11 points. The problem was that Williams ended the game with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Young came back on the court in the fourth period which is Williams’ time to shine. Unfortunately, the superstar was ineffective at the end of the game. However, when Williams was on the floor the Pistons seemingly had no answer.
He was causing such headaches that the young Pistons were collapsing on Williams, leaving Danilo Gallinari open on the wing. This is always a bad move as the big man can knock down these shots as well and anyone in the league. Williams being the high-IQ veteran that he is was able to spot Gallinari and get him the ball for a triple.
Alas, due to a multitude of factors, this performance did not result in a win. However, if the Hawks are going to make the postseason then they need Williams to perform at this level for a large number of the remaining games.
