After the Atlanta Hawks made the offseason trade they had to make, Kris Dunn did not have a very good offseason. He was traded again and then waived. He has been playing this season in the G League for the Agua Calente Clippers and has been playing a decent brand of basketball.

Dunn has been averaging 10.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 26.1 minutes per game. He has started only eight of the 17 Clippers games that he has played. Tellingly, Dunn was not a player who was called up from the G League during the league’s Covid-19 crisis.

Still, teams are looking for offensive minded point guards who can also defend. Dunn is one of the best defenders in the game but his lack of offense at an NBA level causes him issues when it comes to getting game time. He only played a handful of games last season after coming back from ankle surgery due to his inability to create.

The Atlanta Hawks face the Portland Trail Blazers next up.

The Portland Trail Blazers are facing such a hardship season with injuries to so many players, including their superstar Damian Lillard. The full list is Lillard, Joe Ingles, Eric Bledsoe, Nassir Little, Didi Louzada, Jusuf Nurkic, Anfernee Simons, and Justise Winslow.

Most of these players are out for the season so the Blazers have turned to Dunn in the hopes that he will be able to improve their defense, which is currently ranked 29th in the league. His offensive limitations are not a huge issue as the Blazers are only ranked 25th in that category.

If the paperwork is settled, and Dunn can make it to Atlanta in time then the Blazers will probably play the point guard. The Hawks cannot afford to take this game lightly as the Blazers took out the sixth placed Cleveland Cavaliers last game which helped the Hawks have a terrific couple of days.
