Fourth-year point guard Trae Young’s historical season has brought him another accomplishment as the Atlanta Hawks (41-37) enjoy a day off ahead of a tilt against the sixth-seeded Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. The Hawks now sit eighth in the East and have a chance at moving up another spot to host their matchup.

They had taken advantage of lesser opponents as well as a few assists from the Philadelphia 76ers who have knocked off the Charlotte Hornets and Clevland Cavaliers in back-to-back outings.

The Hawks did the rest beating the Brooklyn Nets 122-115 on Saturday, Apr 2 also avoiding the regular-season sweep.

While they have gone on this run with a team effort, Young has led the way.

The accolades are racking up as fast as the Atlanta Hawks wins lately for Trae Young

Young joins Denver Nuggets star and the reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic, in earning the Player of the Week for the week of Mar 27-Apr 3 for his efforts in helping the Hawks go 4-0. They were one of three teams to go undefeated, joining the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat but Young’s performance stood above what anyone on South Beach was doing individually.

The Hawks superstar point guard averaged 30.3 points on 46.2 percent shooting knocking down 35.9 percent of his triples.

He also dished out 10.8 assists to just 2.8 turnovers and grabbed 3.3 rebounds.

What’s most impressive is that he began the week with a 14-point showing against the Indiana Pacers; a game in which he dished out a season-high 16 assists. He shot 30.8 percent in that game and was 2-for-9 from downtown.

Over the last three games, Young has put up 35.7 points on 49.2 percent shooting. He has hit 40.0 percent of his deep looks too while still averaging 9.0 assists and 3.3 boards. Equally as important as his efficiency from deep has been his reliability at the free-throw line where he has hit 35-of-38 tries in this four-game window.

The Hawks rank first in free-throw attempts and ninth in free-throw efficiency over these last four games.

Young was just announced as February’s winner of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his extensive work in Atlanta and his home state of Oklahoma. We covered his opening of a community center in his hometown over the summer.

He also joins Dominique Wilkins as the only Hawks players to win the award three times in the same season.

Now, Young is demanding that he get his respect.

Not only that, but he is continuing to earn it with his performance on the court. He proved against Indiana that it isn’t always going to be scoring. When it is, though, there aren’t many who do it better than Young who is trying to lead his team to a second consecutive deep postseason run.
